Web developer · Engineering student · Musician · Builds with AI

I build websites that feel considered, study how things are engineered, write music in the gaps, and use Claude to move faster at all three. Everything below is the record.

01 — Web Development

Sites built to be read, not just loaded.

How I work

Make it work. Then make it feel effortless.

01

Web

Fast, readable sites for artists and small businesses. Built by hand, tested on slow phones, and handed over with nothing you don't need.

02

Engineering

Second-year mechanical engineering at Stellenbosch University. Learning the fundamentals properly, and building things in between to see if they hold.

03

Music

Writing, producing, and mixing my own releases, and taking on production and mixing work for other artists through SoundBetter.

04

AI

I work with Claude daily: writing clear specs, briefing Claude Code, and checking its output like I'd check my own. This site went from a written design system to a live page that way.

02 — Engineering

Learning how things are made, and making some along the way.

Process

Four steps, every time.

  1. 01 Define the constraint Budget, size, load, deadline. The constraint is the design.
  2. 02 Prototype ugly Cardboard, scrap, hot glue. Find out what's wrong before it's expensive.
  3. 03 Measure everything If it isn't written down, it didn't happen. Test before the pretty version.
  4. 04 Document and finish Drawings, notes, and a write-up someone else could build from.

Where it's heading

Turbomachinery, and the fastest engineering problem on earth.

The part of mechanical engineering I keep coming back to is turbomachinery: compressors, turbines, and the fluid dynamics that make a spinning blade do useful work. It's where thermodynamics, materials, and precision manufacturing collide in one component, and where a tenth of a percent of efficiency is worth chasing for years.

Formula 1 is the sharpest version of that. A hybrid power unit that's among the most thermally efficient engines ever built, a turbocharger spinning past a hundred thousand revolutions a minute, and aerodynamics rethought between races. I follow it for the engineering as much as the racing, and it's the direction I want my degree to point.

03 — Music

Written late, mixed later.

04 — About

One person, three disciplines, the same taste.

I'm Brendon, from Cape Town, South Africa. I'm in my second year of mechanical engineering at Stellenbosch University, I build websites on the side, and I produce music. Across all of it I work with AI, mostly Claude, as a tool for thinking and building faster without lowering the bar. The through-line in everything here is restraint: the fewest parts that do the job, and the care to make those parts feel finished.

I take on a small number of web projects a year around my studies, and release music when it's ready. If you're working on something considered, I'd like to hear about it.
